Cabinet Gorge Dam Spillway Modifications for TDG Abatement - Design Evolution and Field Performance
Avista is implementing spillway modifications to reduce TDG supersaturation downstream of Cabinet Gorge Dam.The key feature of the modifications is the addition of roughness elements, similar to supercavitating baffle blocks,to break up the spillway jet thereby reducing the depth of plunge and TDG supersaturation. The work is progressing in a step-wise manner. A single bay was modified in 2012 and field tested in 2013. Following the initial field tests, aCFD model was developed to aid in design refinements for the prototype and to improve the design prior to modification of subsequent spillway bays. The prototype demonstrated that spillway modifications are an effective method to reduce TDG downstream of a spillway discharging freely into a deep plunge pool. The CFD model has allowed the design to be simplified while maintaining the plunge depth improvements of the initial prototype and reducing the effect of the modifications on spillway capacity. Anomalous power laws of spectral diffusion in quantum dots: A connection to luminescence intermittency
We show that the wandering of transition frequencies in colloidal quantum dots does not follow the statistics expected for ordinary diffusive processes. The trajectory of this anomalous spectral diffusion is characterized by a root t dependence of the squared deviation. The behavior is reproduced when the electronic states of quantum dots are assumed to interact with environments such as, for example, an ensemble of two-level systems, where the correlation times are distributed according to a power law similar to the one generally attributed to the dot's luminescence intermittency
Was the Cosmic Web of Protogalactic Material Permeated by Lobes of Radio Galaxies During the Quasar Era?
Evidence for extended active lifetimes (> 10^8 yr) for radio galaxies implies
that many large radio lobes were produced during the `quasar era', 1.5 < z < 3,
when the comoving density of radio sources was 2 -- 3 dex higher than the
present level. However, inverse Compton losses against the intense microwave
background substantially reduce the ages and numbers of sources that are
detected in flux-limited surveys. The realization that the galaxy forming
material in those epochs was concentrated in filaments occupying a small
fraction of the total volume then leads to the conclusion that radio lobes
permeated much of the volume occupied by the protogalactic material during that
era. The sustained overpressure in these extended lobes is likely to have
played an important role in triggering the high inferred rate of galaxy
formation at z > 1.5 and in the magnetization of the cosmic network of

ISO Observations of the 53W002 Group at 6.7 microns: In Search of the Oldest Stellar Populations at z=2.4
We present a deep ISO observation at 6.7 microns of the 53W002 group of
galaxies and AGN at z=2.4. This approximately samples the emitted K band. The
faint, blue star-forming objects are not detected, as expected from their very
blue color across the emitted optical and UV. However, 53W002 itself is
detected at the 3-sigma level, with an emitted V-K color appropriate for a
population formed starting at z=3.6-7.0 with most likely value z=4.7. This fits
with shorter-wavelength data suggesting that the more massive members of this
group, which may all host AGN, began star formation earlier in deeper potential
wells than the compact Lyman-alpha emission objects. Two foreground galaxies
are detected, as well as several stars. One additional 6.7-micron source
closely coincides with an optically faint galaxy, potentially at z=2-3. The

D-cycloserine augmentation of exposure-based cognitive behavior therapy for anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and posttraumatic stress disorders: a systematic review and meta-analysis of individual participant data
Importance: Whether and under which conditions D-cycloserine (DCS) augments the effects of exposure-based cognitive behavior therapy for anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and posttraumatic stress disorders is unclear. Objective: To clarify whether DCS is superior to placebo in augmenting the effects of cognitive behavior therapy for anxiety, obsessive-compulsive, and posttraumatic stress disorders and to evaluate whether antidepressants interact with DCS and the effect of potential moderating variables. Data Sources: PubMed, EMBASE, and PsycINFO were searched from inception to February 10, 2016. Reference lists of previous reviews and meta-analyses and reports of randomized clinical trials were also checked. Study Selection: Studies were eligible for inclusion if they were (1) double-blind randomized clinical trials of DCS as an augmentation strategy for exposure-based cognitive behavior therapy and (2) conducted in humans diagnosed as having specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or posttraumatic stress disorder. Data Extraction and Synthesis: Raw data were obtained from the authors and quality controlled. Data were ranked to ensure a consistent metric across studies (score range, 0-100). We used a 3-level multilevel model nesting repeated measures of outcomes within participants, who were nested within studies. Results: Individual participant data were obtained for 21 of 22 eligible trials, representing 1047 of 1073 eligible participants. When controlling for antidepressant use, participants receiving DCS showed greater improvement from pretreatment to posttreatment (mean difference, -3.62; 95% CI, -0.81 to -6.43; P = .01; d = -0.25) but not from pretreatment to midtreatment (mean difference, -1.66; 95% CI, -4.92 to 1.60; P = .32; d = -0.14) or from pretreatment to follow-up (mean difference, -2.98, 95% CI, -5.99 to 0.03; P = .05; d = -0.19). Additional analyses showed that participants assigned to DCS were associated with lower symptom severity than those assigned to placebo at posttreatment and at follow-up. Antidepressants did not moderate the effects of DCS. None of the prespecified patient-level or study-level moderators was associated with outcomes. Conclusions and Relevance: D-cycloserine is associated with a small augmentation effect on exposure-based therapy. This effect is not moderated by the concurrent use of antidepressants. Further research is needed to identify patient and/or therapy characteristics associated with DCS response.2018-05-0
Disentangling a group of lensed submm galaxies at z∼ 2.9
MS0451.6−0305 is a rich galaxy cluster whose strong lensing is particularly prominent at submm wavelengths. We combine new Submillimetre Common-User Bolometer Array (SCUBA)-2 data with imaging from Herschel Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE) and PACS and Hubble Space Telescope in order to try to understand the nature of the sources being lensed. In the region of the ‘giant submm arc', we uncover seven multiply imaged galaxies (up from the previously known four), of which six are found to be at a redshift of z∼2.9, and possibly constitute an interacting system. Using a novel forward-modelling approach, we are able to simultaneously deblend and fit spectral energy distributions to the individual galaxies that contribute to the giant submm arc, constraining their dust temperatures, far-infrared luminosities, and star formation rates (SFRs). The submm arc first identified by SCUBA can now be seen to be composed of at least five distinct sources, four of these within a galaxy group at z∼2.9. Only a handful of lensed galaxy groups at this redshift are expected on the sky, and thus this is a unique opportunity for studying such systems in detail. The total unlensed luminosity for this galaxy group is (3.1±0.3)×1012 L⊙, which gives an unlensed SFR of (450±50) M⊙yr−1. This finding suggests that submm source multiplicity, due to physically associated groupings as opposed to chance alignment, extends to fainter flux densities than previously discovered.
